Why haven't I received my activation email?

You should receive your activation email within a few minutes of registration, though at busy times this can take longer. Check your inbox, if it isn’t there you may need to check your ‘spam’ or 'bulk' folder or your deleted items box. If the email has been filtered into your ‘spam’ folder please add mailto:info@whatsmineisyours.com to your address box in order to receive messages throug the site in the future. If you haven't received your activation email within 5 hours please let us know by sending an email to info@whatsmineisyours.com.

Why do I need to click on the link in the activation email to activate my account?

The accuracy of your email address is very important to us. Not only does it allow you to receive message alerts from other members but it also helps keep the site secure. Most people who want to use the site fraudulently will not want us to have their email address. Therefore, we need to know you are who you say you are and we must check the vailidility of your email address.

What is a username?

Your username is the name that other members will use to identify you on the site instead of your own name. For privacy purposes most members do not use their full real name as their username. All offensive usernames will be removed from the system - so please be nice!

Can I change my personal details at any time?

Yes you can. Just log in and click "My Account" in the top menu. Please note: for security reasons you cannot change your username within this section. If you would like to change your username please email info@whatsmineisyours.com with details of your current username and why you wish to change it, and customer services will be happy to help.

What is the wish list and why do I need to fill it in?

The wish list will allow you to personalise your account to show other members which items you are prepared to swap for. So, if you have been searching for a specific item in a specific size for a while and have had no joy in finding it then note it down - you never know, there may be someone out there who has that exact item! If you have placed your item in the swap section then your wish list will be instantly viewable to all members. You can add and remove items from your wish list at any time.

What assurances does a user have that the other will send their item?  Who mails it out first? How does it work?

The site does work on trust, though there are a few things we have done to ensure its used correctly.  We have added a rating system which pushes people to swap correctly if they want to build up a rating.  The site has been running for over 3 years (though the new version has only been running since January 2008) and we have only received 1 complaint in all that time - though it was ironed out in the end.

My advice would be to make sure both you and the person you are swapping with post out your items on the same day by recorded delivery (this way you can insure your items if they are over £50 in value) it also helps with proof of postage.

If you have built up a good rating on the site and have accepted a swap with an unrated member you can ask them to post the item out first.  Once you receive the item and are happy with the condition of it you can then post out your item.

How do I upload images?

When you are adding your items to the site you will need to add photo's to promote your items. You will see the photo upload form at the bottom of the page. We do ask you to keep your image size to a maximum of 500kb, if you are unsure of how to check your image size then right click on the thumbnail of the image within your computer and scroll down to 'Properties'. It will give you the size of the image. If it is larger than our recomended size you may need to compress or re-size it using your picture editor. Try to re-size it without making it too small, we need your pictures to be as large as you can get them so you can show off colours and detail.

How do I rate swaps?

If someone proposes a swap for one of your items which you accept, you will receive an email regarding the swap with a link offering you to rate the swap.  Alternatively you can manually rate the swap in My Items for Swap/ My Account which will display the ratings icon.   Your swap item will automatically be removed from the site.

If you propose a swap for one of your items which is subsequently accepted, you go into Proposed Swaps in My Account which will display the rating icon.  You will need to manually remove your swap item in this case.

What do I do if I'm unhappy with the swap?

If you are unhappy with the swap, it is best to contact the person you swapped with and try to resolve the issue amicably.  If the issue cannot be resolved then often the best thing to do is to agree to swap back.  If someone is disputing an item you have swapped, for example that the description is incorrect, sometimes it is a good idea to offer their postage cost to swap the item back.  Try to remain friendly and reasonable.  If you consider there has been deliberate fraud, fake items or have any other concerns regarding a swap please contact us at info@whatsmineisyours.com
